    Ownership, Use, and Exclusivity: The Kantian Approach.Ernest J. Weinrib - 2018 - Ratio Juris 31 (2):123-138.
Ownership combines the owner's right to exclude others from the owned object and the owner's liberty to use that object. This article addresses the relationship between using and excluding, by presenting Grotius's and Kant's classic accounts of ownership. Grotius's approach treats use and exclusivity as separate notions, with the latter evolving out of the former. For Kant, in contrast, use and exclusivity are integrated aspects of ownership as a right within a regime of equal reciprocal freedom. This article offers a (...)

  6. Relevant alternatives, contextualism included.Ernest Sosa - 2004 - Philosophical Studies 119 (1-2):35-65.
Since this paper is for a conference on “Contextualism in Epistemology and Beyond,” I have opted to sketch a retrospective of contextualism in epistemology, including highlights of the “relevant alternatives” approach, given how relevantism and contextualism have developed in tandem. We focus on externalist forms of contextualism, bypassing internalist forms such as Cohen 1988 and Lewis 1996, but much of our discussion will be applicable to contextualism generally. Internalist contextualism is helpfully discussed in papers by Stewart Cohen, Richard Feldman, and (...)

  12. Classical analysis.Ernest Sosa - 1983 - Journal of Philosophy 80 (11):695-710.
The first paragraph of the article reads: "Classical analysis is concerned neither with cataloguing usage nor with intellectual therapy (except of course by aiming to satisfy curiosity and remove puzzlement). Of recent sorts of analysis, it's the attempt to find the "logical structure of the world" or the "logical form" of various facts that chiefly claims our attention. But philosophers in every period have been absorbed by such analysis. Think of the Greek search for real definitions. Or think of metaphysical (...)

Nietzsche and Treitschke: The Worship of Power in Modern Germany (Classic Reprint).Ernest Barker - 2017 - Forgotten Books.
Excerpt from Nietzsche and Treitschke: The Worship of Power in Modern Germany The State is the highest thing in the external society of man; above it there is nothing at all in the history of the world. This once assumed, its self-preservation, and to that end its power, become imperative. To care for its power is the highest moral duty of the State. Of all litiosl weaknesses that of feeble most a minable and despicable it is the sin against the (...)

Nature and society in social anthropology.Ernest Gellner - 1963 - Philosophy of Science 30 (3):236-251.
This article is concerned to argue that the social sciences and notably social anthropology, must necessarily be concerned with the physical environment of the societies investigated (which includes the biological nature of its members), and not only with the social reality which is at the centre of their concern. This is argued with special reference to fields such as kinship and politics, and to social relationships such as paternity or feuding. The article is concerned to refute arguments put forward in (...)

(1 other version)Ethical, legal and societal considerations on Zika virus epidemics complications in scaling-up prevention and control strategies.Ernest Tambo, Ghislaine Madjou, Christopher Khayeka-Wandabwa, Oluwasogo A. Olalubi, Chryseis F. Chengho & Emad I. M. Khater - 2017 - Philosophy, Ethics, and Humanities in Medicine 12:3.
Much of the fear and uncertainty around Zika epidemics stem from potential association between Zika virus complications on infected pregnant women and risk of their babies being born with microcephaly and other neurological abnormalities. However, much remains unknown about its mode of transmission, diagnosis and long-term pathogenesis. Worries of these unknowns necessitate the need for effective and efficient psychosocial programs and medical-legal strategies to alleviate and mitigate ZIKV related burdens. In this light, local and global efforts in maintaining fundamental health (...)
